Director's Comments
Question to director: Do you have any additional thoughts on what parents should consider when looking at your school? Is there any advice that you would like to provide to prospective parents?
Our program feels like an extension of home. The mood is quiet and serene, although once the children arrive it becomes lively. We have a daily rhythm that changes with the seasons and is enlivened by the celebration of festivals. Our festivals welcome celebrate the seasons of the earth: Harvest Festival, Autumn Lantern Walk, Winter Garden and May Day. These festivals help create our sense of community, and allows us the time to get to know one another and build friendships.
Each day the children are served warm, organic, wholegrain snacks (eg brown rice, oatmeal, quinoa, pumpkin muffins and homemade bread).

I believe that the school has a good based on art and play. I enrolled my son into the Summer Freedom program because I wanted him to get some exposure to Spanish, but unfortunately the spanish speaking teacher was not there when he was. I also noticed that at the beginning of the Summer there were several "teachers" who were under the age of 18. This changed about half way through the summer when FCS had a child escape from the school and ended up roaming around on Stone Way. Fortunately, the child was returned unharmed. After this incident, children were no longer allowed to stay for eight hours in a day and the underage teachers were no longer working at the school. The board responded very quickly to the incident and send emails out to everyone to explain the situation and adjustments to the rules.
Most of the communication is relayed via email and I was only aware of one parent teacher meeting.

The school initially seemed disorganized, but this is no longer the feeling. The teachers are fantastic and I feel that they really care for the children. They spend a lot of time preparing activities for the children. the school focuses a lot of attention on festivals and expects a lot of involvement from parents.
