Director's Description to School's Approach to Discipline

The physical environment and general atmosphere in our classroom is designed to be safe and to encourage age-appropriate behavior from the children. Positive approaches are used with children in ensuring their safety and emotional well-being, such as re-direction, role modeling, and problem solving discussions. Harsh and humiliating techniques, such as spanking, hitting, yelling and shame are not allowed. We involve the children directly in conflict resolution as it occurs (assisting them with finding the words to express themselves appropriately).

Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario

Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'


We encourage children to play with many other children in the classroom and will assist any child in engaging in an activity or with a group of children. We don't force any child to play with a specific child, however we expect them to be respectful toward one another and will intervene if this is not taking place.

Trace around your child's foot, with shoe on, on a piece of white construction paper or card stock. Have child cut out the shoe print and add a spooky face. Glue it to a popsicle stick and you have a ghost stick puppet!
