Parents at this school, on average, believe that conflicts between children:
...are handled extraordinarily well in a way that not only gives me confidence in the safety of my child but also reassures me that my child (and his/her peers) are learning the early skills needed to socialize effectively with one another

Director's Description to School's Approach to Discipline
'Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.' Proverbs 22:6
Our teachers work from these premises when reinforcing self-discipline:
1. God wants us to love one another.
2. God loves us and will help us to do good things, if we ask Him.
3. God wants us to obey those in authority over us.
The following are considered unacceptable behaviors:
- Deliberate intent or infliction of physical harm to others or self. (i.e. hitting, pushing, biting)
- Deliberate destruction of property.
- Speaking disrespectfully, using 'unkind' words.
- Refusal to obey reasonable teacher directions.
- Out of control behavior that disturbs others in the classroom. (i.e. screaming, deliberately running from teacher, tantrums).
When a child displays unacceptable behavior, teachers will follow the following process:
1. Teacher converses with child about behavior.
2. Child is redirected to another activity.
3. If behavior is not corrected, child is put in 'Time Out' area to think.
4. Before the child can return to group, the teacher will insure that he/she recognize the wrong behavior and require a verbal commitment from the child.
5. Teacher prays with child to ask God's help.
6. Teacher will give an encouraging hug. If the unacceptable behavior persists, the following will occur: Child will visit Preschool Director and a written report will be sent to parents.
If problem behavior continues, parents will be contacted for a conference. If improvement is not shown in the time frame agreed upon, continued enrollment will be evaluated.
Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario
Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'
An explanation that we are all friends will be made, Child A will be told that he/she should always use kind words, but that it's good to have many friends and then can play with child C.
Child B will be told that today Child A has chosen to play with Child C, you can play together with them or make another choice.

Being Savvy Today
My Year of Giving Thanks
A year is such a strange thing. It's hard to define, other than to say that it's (generally) 365 days long, or to assign some notion of time to it. Yet, the truth is, so much happens in a year that all those events and experiences seem enough for
Montessori? Waldorf? Play-based?
What school type is right for your child? Is one model better than another? What does the research say?

Today's “Preschool’s Out” Activity
Trace around your child's foot, with shoe on, on a piece of white construction paper or card stock. Have child cut out the shoe print and add a spooky face. Glue it to a popsicle stick and you have a ghost stick puppet!
