Parents at this school, on average, believe that conflicts between children:
...are handled extraordinarily well in a way that not only gives me confidence in the safety of my child but also reassures me that my child (and his/her peers) are learning the early skills needed to socialize effectively with one another

Director's Description to School's Approach to Discipline
We view discipline not as means of punishing a child who has acted inappropriately, but rather as a means of teaching a child. We believe in positive reinforcement through our daily folder with stickers, positive praise, notes home, and a treasure chest prize for exceptional behaviors. We use time-out as means of separating the child when re-direction is ineffective.
Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario
Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'
As a school that tries to foster positive relations amoung all of our children, we would try to encourage child AB and C to all play together. If they chose to not play together at that time, we would encourage Child A to use friendly words such as 'I want to play with ____ right now, but I'll play with you later.' We would encourage child B to find another playmate.
Parents' Notes on Discipline, Health and Safety
Parent #1
Giant Steps has the neatest set up I have seen at a preschool. The playground is amazing, and gives the children plenty of space to run and play and use their energy. The classrooms are cute and very well arranged. My children are disciplined in the same way that I would discipline them at home. We have collaborated with the teachers in our children's respective classrooms, to come up with plans to help the growth and development of our children, as far as discipline goes. We were assured that the system of rewards and discipline we use at home are carried on at the school in order to ensure consistency, especially in special circumstances, when our children were going through some rough periods.
Parent #2
Giant Steps is set up as two cottages. They both are new, well organized and very clean.
Parent #3
Truly, we could not have asked for a better preschool for our child. It is everything, and more, we had wished for.
