Parents at this school, on average, believe that conflicts between children:

Director's Description to School's Approach to Discipline
We establish classroom and playground rules with the students at the beginning of the year. We post them and refer to them when necessary. We talk to the children to remind them of the rules. We use some time out. For repeat offenders we have a conference with the family. We take immediate action when a child is threatening the safety of another child.
Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario
Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'
We facilitate the conversation between the 3 children (conflict resolution). Several options are possible:
- we redirect child B to another activity
- we organize a game for the 3 children (sand box, taking turns using a bike, etc.)
- we try to use the situation as an example for a follow up discussion in class.
Parents' Notes on Discipline, Health and Safety
Parent #1
I have noticed that over worried parents usually were not making the conflict resolution job easy for the teachers. Whenever my son was involved in a conflict, i always thought the teachers did a very good job in resolving it, and my job as a parent, by giving the teacher full authority was more efficient than trying to interfere. I understand that for some worried parents it would help them feel better if they were involved, but in that school it works well when teachers are completely trusted( specialy in front of the kids).
