Director's Description to School's Approach to Discipline
During the first two weeks, the rules will be taught - after that if a child forgets a rule, we will follow these procudures.
1st time - child will be asked if he or she knows the rule - he or she will be reminded and helped to find a better solution.
2nd time- child will sit in a 'time out area' (away from the group) for 1.5 minutes and a better solution discussed.
3rd time- child will sit in 'time out area for 3 minutes.
4th time- (for repeating the same or similar offense) time out again and speak with parents when child is picked up.
If we work together with the parents we can help most children and discipline a child accordingly.
Physical contact in disciplining is avoided unless it is necessary to restrain a child from harming himself or others. Staff members should try to tell and show the child what he or she should be saying or doing, rather than focusing on the unwanted behavior. Corporal punishment is not administered.
*** A child is never to be hit or deprived of food as a punishment.
Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario
Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'
Depends on the child. Talk to all three and see if they all can play together.
If they start playing together but child A and child C leaves child B out it would be best to lead child B into playing with other children. One can then hope that if child A and C see that child B can have fun without them, they might want to come and play with child B.
Sometimes this doen't happen. Then we would try to explain to child B that he can have his own fun by doing what they want as playing in the sand or swinging.
Parents' Notes on Discipline, Health and Safety
Parent #1
Godfrey Campus
Parent #2
Given these are park and rec facilities, the bathrooms are mediocre but the classroom seems fine. I have no idea how clean the toys are, if my kid is warm, etc but like to think I have faith in the instructors to make sure my kid is happy.

Being Savvy Today
On My Own
We met up with my father for a weekend in Grayton Beach, Florida . It was too short as the girls don't see nearly enough of their grandparents, but we packed it full of fun. We spent our last day on the beach
Montessori? Waldorf? Play-based?

Today's “Preschool’s Out” Activity
Trace around your child's foot, with shoe on, on a piece of white construction paper or card stock. Have child cut out the shoe print and add a spooky face. Glue it to a popsicle stick and you have a ghost stick puppet!
