Parents at this school, on average, believe that conflicts between children:
...are handled extraordinarily well in a way that not only gives me confidence in the safety of my child but also reassures me that my child (and his/her peers) are learning the early skills needed to socialize effectively with one another

Director's Description to School's Approach to Discipline
Self-discipline is a concept that many children learn in a school environment. Many times children make choices that are not in their best interst and the teacher needs to intervene. When this happens we use positive methods that strengthen the child's self-esteem as well as hlep them to make better choices in the future. Most situations can be handled by redirecting a child to another activity, away from the situation that is causing over-stimulation. We do not administer corporal punishment at any time.
Occasionally, the situation cannot be handled within the classroom setting, and the Director or Assistant Director is asked to assist. This only happens when the child's behavior jeopardizes the safety of the class or the quality of the program. The parent will be informed of the situation and the action taken. If the situation reoccurs, the teacher, Director and the parent will then meet to develop an appropriate plan for positive behavioral change and frequent updates will be given. However, when a particular child or parent's behavior threatens the safety of or becomes abusive towards other children or teachers in the center, we may disenroll the child immediately.

Parents' Notes on Discipline, Health and Safety
Parent #1
I think since it is also a daycare, parents are more likely to bring children who are a bit sick. However, if they are very sick, they will send them home. I think the school does a great job of teaching socialization skills, but my child was already doing well in these areas from attending home daycare.
Parent #2
Example of discipline used by the teacher: "monsters will come out the walls and eat your fingers if you don't take a nap"

Being Savvy Today
Joy Through a Child's Eyes
It was a cold and soggy day at the Star of Texas Fair & Rodeo. Cold, that is, for March day here in Austin. Of all the sights to see, my son spent most of our visit at the petting zoo. He picked out his

Trace around your child's foot, with shoe on, on a piece of white construction paper or card stock. Have child cut out the shoe print and add a spooky face. Glue it to a popsicle stick and you have a ghost stick puppet!
