Discipline
| OVERALL RATING (5.0) |
|
Parents at this school, on average, believe that conflicts between children:
...are handled extraordinarily well in a way that not only gives me confidence in the safety of my child but also reassures me that my child (and his/her peers) are learning the early skills needed to socialize effectively with one another

Director's Description to School's Approach to Discipline
Our goal is for children to learn self control. Positive redirection is often used.
For children whose behavior is harmful to themselves, to others or to the school, we remove them from the situation, help them to regain composure, and work with them to discover better choices for the next time. It is imperative that teachers be aware of behavior that is escalating and help to diffuse potentially negative situations.
Some conflict is necessary for children to learn how to negotiate and compromise.
Parents' Notes on Discipline, Health and Safety
Parent #1
The temp question goes back to what I said before about the heating.
Parent #2
It gets hot during the summer, but they do apply sunscreen often during the day to the kids.

Food Allergies
- We do not allow certain foods in the classroom
- We are a nut-free facility because we have children with severe allergies to peanuts and tree nuts. We prescreen lunches each day to ensure that lunches are nut/peanut free. Any food with nuts or peanuts is removed from the lunch and a note sent home as a reminder that we are nut free. We supplement the child's lunch for that day to assure that they have proper amounts and types of food.
Medications
- We keep their medication on hand at all times
- All medication must come in original prescription container clearly labeld with child's name, dosage information, doctor's name and date. We require that the parent complete a medication form giving us permission to give their child medication; this form is kept with the medication in a secure area in the kitchen. No non-prescription medication are given at school.

Being Savvy Today
On My Own
We met up with my father for a weekend in Grayton Beach, Florida . It was too short as the girls don't see nearly enough of their grandparents, but we packed it full of fun. We spent our last day on the beach
Montessori? Waldorf? Play-based?
What school type is right for your child? Is one model better than another? What does the research say?

Today's “Preschool’s Out” Activity
Trace around your child's foot, with shoe on, on a piece of white construction paper or card stock. Have child cut out the shoe print and add a spooky face. Glue it to a popsicle stick and you have a ghost stick puppet!
