Parents at this school, on average, believe that conflicts between children:
...are handled extraordinarily well in a way that not only gives me confidence in the safety of my child but also reassures me that my child (and his/her peers) are learning the early skills needed to socialize effectively with one another

Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario
Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'
Many children would actually say, 'You're not my friend.' We help them to say something similar to what is written here, instead and to add that maybe they would like to play with them later (which can often be five minutes later). There are occasions where the interests of one child in another will drift to a new and different friend. Then we have to work closely to help if feelings are being hurt.
Parents' Notes on Discipline, Health and Safety
Parent #1
The teachers are much more creative than I about helping children through hard situations.
Parent #2
Compared to another preschool my son attended, the outdoor space isn't as impressive. This school doesn't seem to have water tables or sand boxes and the surface of the playground is brick, as opposed to the bouncy composite material some other schools have. This school does, however, have an outstanding collection of tricycles (which the children love).

Wise Words to Remind You to Watch the Amazing Show of Childhood
One of the most dog-eared and spine-cracked books on our Savvy Parenting Shelf is Wendy Mogel's The Blessing of a Skinned Knee . This month's look at the big picture of parenting and childhood prompted yet another return to the wisdom in Dr. Mogel's pages:
Montessori? Waldorf? Play-based?
What school type is right for your child? Is one model better than another? What does the research say?
