Parents at this school, on average, believe that conflicts between children:
...are handled extraordinarily well in a way that not only gives me confidence in the safety of my child but also reassures me that my child (and his/her peers) are learning the early skills needed to socialize effectively with one another

Director's Description to School's Approach to Discipline
Discipline is developed through opportunities to problem solve. Teachers are facilitators in problem solving. Children gain an understanding of themselves and others through effective problem solving opportunities.
Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario
Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'
There are age related, developmentally different responses to this problem. A young child might accept the suggestion to come back when child A and C are finished. Child B can be supported to find another play person while waiting to play with child A again or be guided to a different activity. An older child might need support expressing how that makes him/her feel, and how other roles might be invented to extend the play to include child B.
Parents' Notes on Discipline, Health and Safety
Parent #1
Discipline is an extension of learning for the child, where teachers assist the students in understanding themselves, other children's feelings and response, and what techniques and skills can work for all parties involved.
Parent #2
We have a great yard for the children to run in and bikes, sand, balls, etc. The facility is newly restored and in great shape.
Parent #3
Since my children attended Serra Preschool, the school has moved locations to the Presidio. I have not visited the new space.
Parent #4
The fcilities are wonderful. There are several rooms to explore as well as a great outdoor space.

What school type is right for your child? Is one model better than another? What does the research say?
