Parents at this school, on average, believe that conflicts between children:
...are handled extraordinarily well in a way that not only gives me confidence in the safety of my child but also reassures me that my child (and his/her peers) are learning the early skills needed to socialize effectively with one another

Director's Description to School's Approach to Discipline
We believe that the goal of discipline is to help children to develop compassion, self-control, and self-esteem. We support children by redirecting inappropriate behavior and offering appropriate alternatives. We validate children's feelings and encourage them to express them in ways that are constructive. We aid children in resolving conflicts in age appropriate ways. We try to prevent problems from happening by staying close to children, monitoring their behavior, and providing positive feedback. To help children understand that behavior has consequences, we institute consequences that make sense. For example, if a child is throwing sand, she may lose the privelege of being in the sandbox.
Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario
Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'
Teachers would observe, reflect and determine if intervention is needed. If needed, he/she would then proceed with helping children discuss how to resolve hurt feelings. It is important that the resolution feel fair to those involved.

Being Savvy Today
My Year of Giving Thanks
A year is such a strange thing. It's hard to define, other than to say that it's (generally) 365 days long, or to assign some notion of time to it. Yet, the truth is, so much happens in a year that all those events and experiences seem enough for
Montessori? Waldorf? Play-based?
What school type is right for your child? Is one model better than another? What does the research say?

Today's “Preschool’s Out” Activity
Trace around your child's foot, with shoe on, on a piece of white construction paper or card stock. Have child cut out the shoe print and add a spooky face. Glue it to a popsicle stick and you have a ghost stick puppet!
