Director's Description to School's Approach to Discipline
Class sizes are kept small which allows the teachers a better opportunity to observe behavior. This helps reduce discipline problems. However, under certain circumstances, the teachers redirect the children one-on-one by speaking to them about the problem. Occasionally, a child may need to have a five-minute time out in the classroom or on the playground.
Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario
Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'
The teacher would talk with all of the children involved about hurting other people's feelings, remind them that they are all friends and that they should include each other and play together. The teacher might also encourage child B to play with another child that day and make a new friend.
