Director's Description to School's Approach to Discipline
We praise the right behaviors and acknowledge the children who are following the teacher's instructions and showing appropriate behavior. Time out is used, along with an explanation of what the correct behaviors should have been and any necessary apologies made to other child for harm or hurt feelings.
Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario
Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'
We would gather A, B and C and ask if they could all play together. We would try to find an activity they could all work on together, such as kitchen area, puppet show or using our tools on the inside climber. We would direct the children to activities where everyone is included.
Food Allergies
- We do not allow certain foods in the classroom
- We ask parents to provide child-safe snacks for their allergic child
Medications
- We call parents when the child needs medication
