Parents at this school, on average, believe that conflicts between children:

Director's Description to School's Approach to Discipline
Dallas Day School supports the belief that punishment is to exact revenge while discipline is to teach alternative behaviors. Most behaviors occur because children do not know other, more appropriate responses to the circumstances. Re-direction and teaching more appropriate responses are the primary disciplinary techniques utilized. Occasionally, students are asked to 'think about' a better way to respond. Faculty view inappropriate behaviors not as a behavior problem, but as a need to learn more appropriate behaviors. Any discipline issue is discussed with parents so that a collaborative approach can be implemented.
Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario
Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'
This is common. If Child B is not upset, the teacher would do nothing. If Child B is upset, the teacher would (1) explain that just because Child A wants to play with someone else today, it doesn't mean that Child A no longer likes him and (2) assist CHild B in identifying other peers with whom he/she would like to play.
Parents' Notes on Discipline, Health and Safety
Parent #1
Dallas Day School is a terrific place for my children to learn and be cared for during the work week. I have great peace of mind that my children are being loved, cared for, and nurtured on a daily basis. They are always happy when I pick them up which reinforces my gut instinct that this is the right place for my kids. I tell my kids' teachers, the DDS director and other parents that DDS is one of the best kept secrets in Dallas. I feel grateful to have learned about DDS when I was looking for quality day care for my oldest child upon reentering the work world 2 1/2 years ago.
