Parents at this school, on average, believe that conflicts between children:
...are handled extraordinarily well in a way that not only gives me confidence in the safety of my child but also reassures me that my child (and his/her peers) are learning the early skills needed to socialize effectively with one another

Director's Description to School's Approach to Discipline
Discipline at Evergreen is approached with respect, maintaining the dignity of all the players involved. The children are held accountable for resolving their own conflicts through the gentle, skillful support of a teacher. In any given dispute, teachers calmly facilitate a conversation about the conflict, hearing all sides of the story and helping the children develop a plan of action to help improve the situation.
Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario
Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'
In approaching any discipline or learning moment, teachers at Evergreen avoid basing their practice on prescribed formulas. Instead, teachers take into account the complexity of factors influencing any conflict or behavior a child may engage in or depict. Most importantly, the basis for all interactions between teachers and children at Evergreen involves respect.
Parents' Notes on Discipline, Health and Safety
Parent #1
Evergreen has a Reggio based program - which heavily emphasizes ART. This is a school where you will not find 4 colors in the paint jars at the easel, but rather a rainbow of colors! Children are encouraged to work on projects that they can keep coming back to during the entire year. While there is some teacher-driven curriculum, most of the day is dictated by the children. Reggio is also very big on documentation -- lots of pictures and transcripts of what the children say and do throughout the day.
Parent #2
We are a small community that works like a larger family unit. The school sets the guidelines, and communicates effectively. The school takes pride in its surroundings and upon visiting you will experience that sense of pride immediately. It's the most wonderful assault of your senses imaginable.
