All Montessori "works" include an individual lesson with the child and then the child is free to explore the work on his own. The Montessori environment is deliberately designed to engage the children and expose them to practical life, sensorial experiences, science, mathematics and geometry, language arts, geography, music, art, movement and physical education.

Director's Comments

Montessori is designed to go from the concrete to the abstract. Children work with materials for a very long time before they put anything on paper. As a result, there are no dittos, and very few take home "papers" until nearly kindergarten. Work with letters is totally phonetic. Children who are read to at home but do not learn the names of the letters actually learn to read more quickly that those who say the names of letters at home and the sounds of the letters at school.

Montessori styled preschools generally have a very special 'station' style and this school is a wonderful example of the implementation of the idea. They build social skills, boundary setting, respect for one another, and other skills in this very basic form of organization.
