Savvy Source's Comments
"Smart Start's Early Childhood teachers implement a responsive, emergent and negotiated curriculum and assessment system that focuses on the development of the whole child. We are inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach and its use of collaboration among teachers, parents and children on documentation analysis, interpretation, direction and play. Teachers guide children on the development of theories through encounters with materials, the real world, conversations, group discussions and symbolic representations in multiple forms: art, music, movement, dance, drama, constructions, foreign language and writing." -- Excerpted from school literature

Parents' Comments
Parent #1
The school philosophy is Reggio-Emilia environment using The Project Approach. Parents who research the Project Approach will understand that it is child-centered with teacher as enabler.
Parent #2
I was impressed with the Reggio Emilia approach while our primary teacher was there. After she left, the academics were dismal and we never received any end-of-year feedback on our son's performance.

Being Savvy Today
On My Own
We met up with my father for a weekend in Grayton Beach, Florida . It was too short as the girls don't see nearly enough of their grandparents, but we packed it full of fun. We spent our last day on the beach
Montessori? Waldorf? Play-based?

Today's “Preschool’s Out” Activity
Trace around your child's foot, with shoe on, on a piece of white construction paper or card stock. Have child cut out the shoe print and add a spooky face. Glue it to a popsicle stick and you have a ghost stick puppet!
