Parents' Comments
Parent #1
Hanna is a play-based preschool, however children learn through play and some informal teacher instruction.
Parent #2
Storytelling occurs at circle time, where the teacher reads books to the children. It also can occur throughout the day if a child requests it. There is also a station for books on tape. Music is a combination of free play with some teacher involvement, in addition to a special music teacher to who comes in and leads a session every other week or so.
Parent #3
The class has a circle time at the beginning and end of class when teachers read aloud, lead songs and rhymes, etc. Other than circle time and music class, all activities are stations with teacher encouragement. The teachers are definitely involved and even tracking the childrens' progress (although not in a way the children would notice) but children choose their own activities from what is available that day. I think the teachers do a terrific job of having a good balance of activities -- some that are always available and some that change. I think the variety is just right -- not so much that it is overwhelming, but enough that any child can find things that are interesting and appropriate for the day.
Parent #4
A music teacher comes in 1 or 2 x per month to lead the children in music-based activities. There is a circle time that includes reading, and an indoor play period and an outdoor play period. Within those periods, children have free choice to go from station to station to play.

Trace around your child's foot, with shoe on, on a piece of white construction paper or card stock. Have child cut out the shoe print and add a spooky face. Glue it to a popsicle stick and you have a ghost stick puppet!
