Savvy Source's Comments
As children enter preschool, they begin to think symbolically and logically. With these new skills, and an increased mastery of language, the preschool child is ready to further develop an understanding of the world around them. Inquisition turns into interest, and skills form as a result. At Carlsbad Country Day School we believe that each child's abilities and skills are unique, and should be embraced. We believe in a child directed learning enviornment, which allows children to learn from topics that interest them. As children learn through play, we emphasize critical literacy skills and school readiness. We give children the chance to practice decision-making and self-help skills in a positive and supportive setting. Here at Carlsbad Country Day School, we provide an unparalleled level of consistent, attentive and loving care. Through our continuity of care program, we allow a strong bond to form between caregiver and child, as they continue together throughout the years. We provide peace of mind for parents allowing them to stay connected with their preschoolers over our Internet viewing system. These early years in a child's life are the most influential and often determine the way a child will learn, socialize, and view the world around them. Remember, the end depends on the beginning.

Savvy Source's Comments
While the preschool program is play-based with some structure, we set academic goals for our children/teachers to meet.
Parents' Comments
Parent #1
enrichment classes are great!
Parent #2
I really like seeing what my child is learning and where she is in her development. The books they send home are very helpful.
Parent #3
Very advance lesson plans with target goals to meet.
Parent #4
Teacher led instruction, every minute is structured with lesson plans hanging in the room.

The school's approach on curriculum has worked wonders for our children. The teachers see what the kids are interested in, and build a lesson plan based on their interests. The lessons are well thought out, interesting, and unique. My daughter cries on the days we DON'T go to school!
Parent #7
There is no doubt that this school has a strong academic base but makes learning fun! My daughter is very advanced with her language skills but just does not seem to care about math and numbers. The teacher set individual goals to work on with my daughter so that she became interested in all aspects of learning, including math. I can not say enough good things about this program and their approach to learning! FANTASTIC!
Parent #8
There appears to be no school wide approach or philosphy. Though many highly qualified and experienced teachers are given liberty to design each class, it is a matter of time before each of these teachers becomes beyond frustrated with the lack of overall direction and positive support from management.
Parent #9
Love the curriculum, love the learning books, love CCDS! When you look at other schools there is just no comparison! All you have to do is ask the staff if they love where they work, the answers tell it all!
Parent #10
We just felt it wasn't best for our child. We wanted him to experience a less-stressed atmosplhere without so many transitions, be it teachers coming and going or moving from location to location (inside, outside, upstairs, downstairs) in one day's time.
Parent #11
There is no formal curriculum
Parent #12
This school uses the best parts of all the curricular approaches out there.
Parent #13
TRAVEL AROUND THE WORLD is the curriculum for the 4 year old program and it is absolutly adorable. The teachers have so many unique materials and items that are interesting to me as an adult. I love sitting in on circle time in my daughter's class!
Parent #14
The school has the most amazing program. The tuition includes so much, like breakfast, lunch, snacks, a bilingual immersion program, a music program, a martial arts program,... the list goes on and on! My daughter's teacher has been with the school since we opened and has our entire families love and respect!
Parent #15
when the kids aren't listening they close down centers and take away toys, causing more problems. Shouldn't they be playing and having fun?
Parent #16
My children have learned so much since they started at CCDS. They come home with all little interesting odd facts! On the days we stay home from school, they ask to go.
Parent #17
this is a educationally structured school that is providing our kids with and advanced education in pre-school that far exceed that of the average kindergarten class.
Parent #18
They follow a "guideline" but no structure is given to parents or children to take home and practice/review
Parent #19
AWESOME!

Joy Through a Child's Eyes
It was a cold and soggy day at the Star of Texas Fair & Rodeo. Cold, that is, for March day here in Austin. Of all the sights to see, my son spent most of our visit at the petting zoo. He picked out his

Trace around your child's foot, with shoe on, on a piece of white construction paper or card stock. Have child cut out the shoe print and add a spooky face. Glue it to a popsicle stick and you have a ghost stick puppet!
