Director's Comments
"Preschool welcomes children at a time when their progress and evolution are particularly pronounced. For many children, this is often the first opportunity for social assimilation. Therefore the first objective is to teach young children how to interact.
Preschool is a special and unique environment where children establish the foundation for all future learning. The variety and wealth of their experiences enable them to build their knowledge and prepare, through structured learning, for more systematic learning at the elementary school level. The activities offered to children are designed to encourage them to exercise and develop their motor, emotional, relational, and intellectual capacities.
The preschool curriculum has been carefully organized so that each child can act and participate within the learning space, time and situation to maximize his or her learning experience" -- Excerpted from school literature

Most of the above areas are taught at the preschool level in French, English and Spanish by qualified native speakers of the language.
Parents' Comments
Parent #1
Dallas International is a very traditional, European school with an academic focus on the basics on reading, writing and mathematics. Children are expected to reach a standard, age-appropriate competency level in French, Spanish and English annually. Students are led by the instructor in most cases to create artwork and learn numbers, letters, shapes and skills.
Parent #2
There is a definite structure and curriculum, with teachers focusing the kids on development within those areas listed. However, there is also a lot of free play, kids are encouraged to play with maniplatives, art supplies, physical activity (playground,) etc. There is unstructrued time and structured time every day.
Parent #3
French /English focus is nice, but there is not enough stability in most students' days. Too much change, too often for most children.
Parent #4
My child desires more "free play" especially during art, but the art is very structured.
Parent #5
Curriculum is good, like the French/English program. Overall it is an excellent program for kids, but the administration is out of touch with current behavioral strategies and there seem to be some major cultural gaps between French administration and teaching staff.

Wise Words to Remind You to Watch the Amazing Show of Childhood
One of the most dog-eared and spine-cracked books on our Savvy Parenting Shelf is Wendy Mogel's The Blessing of a Skinned Knee . This month's look at the big picture of parenting and childhood prompted yet another return to the wisdom in Dr. Mogel's pages:
