Parents' Comments
Parent #1
During the day they have teacher led instruction but many activities are also available during free play.
Parent #2
Overall I feel it needs more structure and consistency.
Parent #3
Generally play-driven.
Parent #4
Learn through PLAY is the philosophy at Redwood Village.
Parent #5
The children have a circle time in the morning that is teacher led. They have choices during the day so they can participate in an activity that interests them. There are large blocks of time that allow the children to focus on tasks and to socialize. The teachers lead two small group circle times during the day that allow for focused attention and a more teacher directed activity.
Parent #6
At certain times of the day, children are gathered in groups for circle time, where the teachers lead discussions, tell stories, sing songs, etc. At other times, various activity stations are set up and children can choose their activities. Each week there's a theme (jungle animals, for example) that the activities reinforce.
Parent #7
Beyond what is offered as part of the school day, there are music, yoga, gymnastics, "Playball," and "Kids On Stage" classes offered in the afternoon for an additional fee.
Parent #8
the approach is to make the learning fun for the child and not stressful for them
Parent #9
My daughter learned all that she needed to know to be ready for kindergarten. When i asked her what she learned she said "its not a learning school, its a playing school." which tells me that the curriculum was put forth in exactly the right way for a play based school.
