Word on the Street

Visit Kayak Point for the day, for the weekend or even a full week at one of their campsites.  Located along the shores of Port Susan in Stanwood, Kayak Point offers 3,300 feet of shoreline, an evergreen forest, salt water beach and plenty to see and do.  A pier which extends 300 feet into Puget Sound is perfect for crabbing and fishing.  At high tide, flounder, sole, code, rockfish and walleye Pollack can be caught from the 50 foot water depth at the end of the pier.  Casting can also be done right from the shoreline to catch other varieties of fish.Overnight (or longer) stays can be accommodated with campsites, Yurt Village, or the Kayak Kottage Vacation House.  Never heard of a Yurt?  It's a circular domed tent made from poles covered with felt or animal skins that traditionally served as a shelter for Mongolian nomads.  Kayak Point's yurts have hardwood floors, electricity, screen windows, a skylight and a locking door. Restrooms and showers are available in the camp areas.  Kayak Point is a great place for family camping!A large picnic area is perfect for summer barbecues and parties as it features power and water and accommodates up to 75 people in the sheltered area.  A boat launch is available and the park is a great place for windsurfing, hiking and more.A bit of a drive from the Seattle area, plan to at least stay the day.  Pack a lunch and snacks, a blanket, jackets and sunscreen. Don't forget the sand toys! Day parking is $7.  Bring exact cash as the machine does not make change.
