Word on the Street

The great outdoors is what living in Washington is all about.  Get out and enjoy the fresh air with your children with a hike to Wallace Falls.  This hike is easy enough for kids and parents carrying babies in front or back packs.  Since their are several lookout points and trail options you can decide which is best for your family. One option is to take the Railroad Grade Trail which meets up with Woody Trail at the 1.4 mile mark just before the Lower Falls lookout.  This route adds about a mile to your hike as the grade isn't nearly as steep. The Lower Falls features a fenced viewpoint and a picnic shelter and is a nice goal for first time hikers and those with small children.  Middle Falls is 2.2 miles from the trail head and presents one of the most spectacular views of a waterfall in Washington state and worth the climb! The Upper Falls is another half mile beyond. Wallace Falls is a very popular hike so expect the trail to be well traveled any time of year.  You'll encounter more hikers mid-morning to late afternoon so it's best hiked in the morning hours.  Be sure to pack lots of snacks such as trail mix, granola bars, beef jerky, fruit etc. as well as bottled water.  Plan small incremental goals as resting points for the kids to keep it fun.  Stop to check out mossy rocks, wild mushrooms and anything else that catches their attention.
