Word on the Street
There's something about the sky that makes kids (okay, adults too) dream. It brings us the sun, clouds, rainstorms, rainbows, snow...you name it. Yet most of us only see it from the ground. With the rising cost of EVERYTHING these days, it is becoming less likely that we'll be bringing the kids on another airplane ride any time soon...so that seems from the ground is how they'll admire the big sky.But...there's another way to get a bit closer to the sky in Houston. Did you know that the Chase Morgan tower in downtown has a floor with an observation deck? It does! And, best part, it is free! The tower is the tallest in Texas and, at one point, was the tallest this side of the Mississippi River. Take the express elevators to the 60th floor, which is called the sky level, to see the observation deck. (Little tidbit: The tower was designed by I.M. Pei!)The sky level is open during working hours (8 to 5) on Monday through Friday. When you're finished, take the elevator down to the tunnels underneath, which span over 25 blocks of downtown Houston for a snack or lunch.
