Word on the Street
The Creative Playscape in Georgetown was rated one of the best in the state by Texas Monthly -- and it's easy to see why. A labyrinth of tunnels, secret hiding spots, slides and places to climb, this is basically kid heaven. Volunteers built the Playscape for the children of Georgetown in 1993. The Playscape is next door to the San Gabriel Park Recreation Center, which is not far from exit 261 off IH-35. In fact, the exit is only a few minutes north of IKEA in Round Rock. The Creative Playscape is not very visible from the road, so definitely keep an eye out for a right turn into a parking lot past signs for San Gabriel Park. The Playscape is relatively contained, and there is a convenient spot in the center with seating where parents can congregate or where you can eat snacks or lunch. The restroom facilities are a short walk from the enclosed play area. It can be challenging to keep an eye on your little one/s due to the narrow gaps in the wood that makes up most of the structure and it's not easy for adults to get in and out of some of the areas. That said, kids three years old and up can easily navigate the structure -- just something to keep in mind for littler siblings or friends. In addition to the playscape itself, there are swings, a sandbox and plenty of shade. In short, enough to enthrall most preschoolers for a morning or afternoon and enough to expend lots of energy!
