Barton Springs epitomizes Austinites' love of the outdoors, nature and active living. This spring-fed swimming pool has a large shallow area for kids, although it can be a bit slippery in places. Ramps make entering the frigid water a bit easier or harder, depending on your perspective. Where else can you spot fishing nibbling on your toes in a public pool? Barton Springs has a reverent core of visitors, many which swim daily or at least weekly, so if you start going you begin to feel like part of a special community.
