Word on the Street

Bartholomew is a huge park which is most often visited by families in the surrounding Windsor Park neighborhood. Some days, the park is completely empty; some weekends, the park is more crowded as families make a day of it, taking advantage of the barbeque pits and picnic tables.Just northeast of Mueller, Bartholomew has two distinct play areas, sport fields, a basketball court (perfect for bike/trike riding), a creek, a sandbox, swings and pavilions which can be reserved. The toddler play area is partly shaded and has a train, bus and house that kids can play in and around. There are also signs suggesting other activities to do with younger children. The other play area, that is not shaded, has a larger playscape with several places for kids to climb and slides. Swings separate this playscape from a smaller one, which has tunnels and a climbing wall that younger siblings can enjoy. Some days trash doesn't make it into cans around the park, so you may want to keep an eye out to make sure littler ones don't put anything in their mouths.Although the municipal pool was closed in June 2009 when significant structural damage was found, funds from the 2006 Bond Election will be used to build a new pool. The wading pool will be converted into a splash pad by June 2010.
