Word on the Street

Wollman Rink is named for Kate Wollman, who donated $600,000 in 1949 to build what is one of several famous ice skating rinks open during New York City's coldest months. You won't feel so cold when you've laced up and are literally skating under the stars, which are visible in the night sky above you as you glide or scuttle across the ice. Adults and children alike benefit from the fresh winter air when most other activities keep them inside. Whether you're a novice or a pro you'll enjoy hitting the ice (so to speak, we hope), listening to the music and forgetting for a short time that you're actually in the heart of New York City.Hockey playing is also available.(Central Park also offers an ice skating adventure at the north end of the park. Lasker Rink offers similar activities and instruction opportunities and is located between 106th and 108th Streets. Enter the Park at 110th and Lenox Avenue.)
