Inspired by the model boat ponds of late 19th century Paris, Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux created a place where children and adults alike could experience the pleasure of boating, in addition to the other attractions Conservatory Water has to offer.

Located near 5th Avenue and 74th Street in Central Park, Conservatory Water provides opportunities for both activities and viewing enjoyment. From May to October, master the skills of maneuvering tiny wind-powered or electric boats or relax alongside the picturesque waters at this notable Central Park haunt. During winter the water level is lowered to make way for free--FREE!--public ice skating. During the summer, in addition to the mini-yachting, Central Park offers storytelling at the Hans Christian Anderson statue near the pond.
