Thurgood Marshall Branch opened July 23, 1994, replacing the Hamilton Park Branch, a one room facility in the Hamilton Park Field House and the Auburn Branch, a small storefront. Thurgood Marshall Branch, which has a reading garden, was named in memory of Thurgood Marshall, the first African American to serve on the United States Supreme Court.
