Word on the Street

The Littleton Historical Museum, located just east of Downtown Littleton, offers a unique experience with a living museum. The best part - admission is free, but please give a donation to help support the museum.Enter the museum building (built in 2005) and explore the two exhibit rooms full of history. Don't miss the play area where little ones can play in a store, bank and more. Then put on the sunscreen and head outside. Two farms - one from the 1860's and one from the 1890's await. Visit the 1860's farm first. Costumed interpreters are available around the farm to explain and describe what was like about 150 years ago on the Colorado plains. Explore the farm house, the barn and animal yards. Roaming sheep, cows, pigs and mules also live on the farm. This farm is also complete with a school house (if you hit it right, a teacher will hold class during your visit) and ice house. Outside of hearing the zooming cars on the nearby street, you feel as if you've stepped back in time. Then time travel 30 years into the future to 1890. This farm has a farm house, barn and working blacksmith shop. It's fun to note the differences and how far people had come in their advancements. The farm house especially has some noticeable upgrades. This farm has chickens, pigs and cows. Return to present day and take a short walk out to the gazebo and lake. The museum will take about one to two hours to explore. There are plenty of restrooms but no concessions or eating area. There is plenty of grassy areas outside the museum for picnics. Food and drinks are not allowed on the farms.
