Watching for bison along I-70 in Genesee is a local tradition. In 1914, the City of Denver acquired bison and elk from Yellowstone Park. Genesee Park helped maintain the new species, who at that time were nearing extinction. The herd is maintained at about 24 adult animals. You can watch by exiting off I-70 at Exit 254 or Exit 253 (Chief Hosa Exit). In addition, Genesee Park offers picnic areas, softball field, scenic overlook, volleyball, horseshoes and camping.
