Thousand Oaks, CA 91362
The Lakes at Thousand Oaks prides itself on small boutiques rather than large chain stores, and in that vein offers M. Fredric, which has cute and stylish clothes and accessories for the under six set. Casual dining that the kids can enjoy includes California Pizza Kitchen, PF Chang's, and Claim Jumper.
Word on the Street
The Lakes at Thousand Oaks is a shopping center surrounded by beautiful landscaping that features fountains, a small waterfall, a bridge, rocks and many unique "kid" statues. (These statues are solid enough for the real kids to climb.) The venues at the center is limited mostly to kid-friendly eateries (California Pizza Kitchen, Nate 'n Al Delicatessen, Claim Jmper and PF Chang's China Bistro) and apparel shops (Tommy Bahama, and White House/Black Market). The center comes alive most during the winter season, when the Holiday Ice Rink opens. (The rink is open from mid-November through mid-January.) Admission to the rink is $9 per person; rental for figure skates is $3 and rental for hockey skates is $4. Tickets for the rink can be purchased at the site or in advance. During the weekends, the rink is quite busy... so you may not want to bring your beginner skaters during that time.A small playground is also part of the landscape. It doesn't offer much (a slide and a few swings), but there's plenty of room for kids to run around. Located in a big sandbox and surrounded by lovely benches, the playground is a lovely area to sit and enjoy the view. Plus, you can grab a mocha at the nearby Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf to sip while watching your children play. The Lakes at Thousand Oaks also has a Kid's Club that offers special kid-friendly events throughout the year. See the official website for details on all upcoming events.
