The Dinosaur Farm is a specialty toy and book store in South Pasadena, California, that takes great pride in calling itself "not your ordinary toy store." While they offer the staples you'd expect to find in an educational toy store (Can you say "Thomas the Tank Engine"?), they also offer unusual things that make a visit to The Dinosaur Farm a bit different than most toy stores.

Word on the Street

The Dinosaur Farm is a small toy store located in South Pasadena. It may be small, but it's stuffed with goodies that will dazzle your youngsters' eyes. Although you will find dinosaur toys there, you'll also find every other kind of toy imaginable: learning toys, puzzles, books, art kits, dolls and dollhouses, seasonal toys, games, old-school toys, stuffed animals, musical instruments and much more. Named the Best Independent Toy Store by L.A. Parent magazine, The Dinosaur Farm is a perfect place to find a unique gift for someone special. (The range of small toys also makes it a great stop for stocking stuffers!)The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Free gift-wrapping is included with your purchases. Kids are encouraged to explore the store and are able to play with many of the toys while they shop. (For example, you'll find a Thomas the Tank Engine railroad set up in one part of the store.) The Dinosaur Farm also hosts birthday parties in the back room. The bathroom even has a wooden padded changing table, perfect for those in-store emergencies. The Dinosaur Farm can feel like a dinosaur itself in the age of huge chain stores. Fortunately though, it's not a relic. While the store has a classic "mom and pop" feel to it, it's also for those of us that do our shopping at our desks. So if you can't make it to the store, you can visit their online site to purchase any of their dinosaur toys. And, of course, once you become a fan of the place, you can "friend" it on Facebook. Take that, Toys R' Us.
