Word on the Street

A staple of the San Fernando Valley, Sherman Oaks Castle Park is a destination for old-fashioned fun. The venue features three miniature golf courses, an extensive arcade area, and batting cages. The courses are fairly well-kept and clean, with streams running through the area and music pumping through outdoo speakers.. The fact that there are three courses to choose from means less waiting. Also, they offer kid-sized clubs for the little ones. And although preschool children may lack coordination on the course, they will likely still enjoy the experience. The arcade area features old-school games such as skee-ball and air-hockey, as well as newer games that put you right in the driver’s seat. Many of the games offer the chance to win tickets to redeem at the prize counter. (And yes, any decent prize still costs a ridiculous amount of tickets.) And while the cost to play miniature golf has stayed relatively cheap, the cost of arcade games has risen. Many games cost two or even three tokens to play. (Although the classic games such as Ms. Pacman still cost only one token to play.) Older kids will certainly enjoy trying out their skills in the batting cages that range from slow pitches (60mph) to fast pitches (90mph). The cost for the batting cages is relatively inexpensive as well and the venue does supply batting helmets. A café in the building offers up kid-friendly fare (hot dogs, nachos, sodas, and the like). While the café is convenient for feeding hungry kids, the highly-processed food is slightly on the scary side. Since you’re not allowed to bring in any of your own food and drink, you may want to eat before you go.
