Word on the Street

Kelley Park, just south of downtown San Jose, is one of the city's most diverse facilities.  The park can be tackled in four different ways; it really just depends on what you are in the mood for doing with your kid that day.  First, as with all big city parks there are numerous picnic tables, shady trees and grassy areas. Kelley Park is neither exceptional nor delinquent in this regard. Let your kid run wild chasing bugs and learning how to get stung by bees (Joke: do not attempt). What makes Kelley Park special are the three other major "zones".There's History Park Museum, a preserved "town" setting from around 1900. This is where you take your "and then what happened?" tykes to keep them quiet for an hour or so.  Then there's the beautiful, tranquil Japanese Friendship Garden.  To relax, and oh, I don't know, learn about and experience serenity, leave your kids with grandma. No, I mean "visit the Japanese Friendship Garden". Gaze upon wondrous rock formations that your kids will want to mess with. Try to explain Shinto to a four year old.Really, though, what draws families with young children to Kelley Park on a daily basis is Happy Hollow. It's a combination of pre-schooler amusement park and a small zoo, and it's a don't miss attraction for any Silicon Valley preschooler.
