Word on the Street

Hiking in Glen Canyon is about as family-friendly as one can get.  The trail is flat and flanked by native plantings.  For toddlers, take the left-hand trail (which is shadier) and plan to cover maybe a quarter mile at most. Older kids might make it to the end of the trail, which is just under a mile. A word of caution: if you get to the very end of the canyon, there are some poison oak stands growing in among the blackberry. Make sure you know what it looks like!To round things out, there are even bathrooms and a small playground near the trail head.  Glen Canyon Park is the canyon below O'Shaughnessy Avenue; park down at the bottom on Bosworth or take the MUNI 44 or 52. For more information, try the Bay Area Hiker information page on the park.
