Word on the Street

Located in Redwood City's beautifully restored (and beautiful) Old County Courthouse, the San Mateo County History Museum brings the region's rich and colorful history alive with a variety of permanent and temporary exhibits that feature photos, artifacts, dioramas, models and hands-on, interactive displays.  Their newest exhibit features the Mavericks big-wave surfing area at Pillar Point.  Kids will love standing atop the 40-Foot Wave to see how high these surfers actually go, and they'll adore the Waverider, a multi-sensory game interface where daring visitors can take a virtual ride …or wipe-out.  That said, the museum is probably geared to children ages 6 and up.
