The first crowd filled the Coliseum on September 18, 1966 when the AFL’s Oakland Raiders played the Kansas City Chiefs. The adjacent arena celebrated its grand opening on November 9, 1966 when the Oakland Seals met the San Diego Gulls for an NHL game.
