The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) is a not-for-profit oceanographic research center in Moss Landing, California affiliated with the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The institute is not open to the general public, but it has an open house once a year for the general public.

Word on the Street

On September 12, 2009, the public will get a once-a-year opportunity to visit MBARI during their annual Open House. The event will feature science and technology exhibits, displays of deep-sea video from Monterey Bay, research presentations, children's activities, ocean career information, and much more. Visitors can view MBARI's robotic deep-sea vehicles: the remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) Ventana and Doc Ricketts and  autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). MBARI's three research vessels will also be on view at the dock with related displays. The Monterey Bay Aquarium will provide selected gift store items.
