Oh, Snap! The Best Spots to Photograph Kids in the Bay Area

One of the easiest ways to ensure a successful child photo session is to head outdoors. You'll be able to take advantage of that soft, flattering natural light, and your little ones will be more relaxed when they're free to run around, dance, or snuggle up to their siblings. It's so much easier to capture your children's genuine spirit and personality when they're with people they love, in a place they love, doing the things they love!

Fortunately, the Bay Area is filled with many locations that can serve as the perfect backdrop for your family photos. Here are some of the most picture-perfect ones:

The Ocean

If your family loves the ocean, try Baker Beach in San Francisco. With great serpentine cliffs rising from the sands and the Golden Gate Bridge rising from the waters of the San Francisco Bay, this beach boasts 360 degrees of beautiful scenery. Other great seaside locations include Half Moon Bay and the beach at Crissy Field.

The Gardens

Colorful blooms make a lovely backdrop for any photo. Japanese gardens are a popular choice for photos, especially in the springtime when the cherry blossoms are in bloom. Try the Hakone Estate and Gardens in Saratoga (where the movie Memoirs of a Geisha was filmed) or the Japanese Tea Gardens in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. Filoli Gardens in Woodside and Gamble Gardens in Palo Alto are two great alternatives with a more English country garden appeal.

The Architecture

Man-made structures can provide interesting backdrops as well as striking accents in any photo. Photographers around the Bay Area seek the graceful arches and gorgeous architectural details in landmarks such as the Palace of Fine Arts, the Legion of Honor, and the Stanford University Quad. And there's a reason why the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most photographed locations in the world! If you want to include it in your family photo, head to Crissy Field, Baker Beach, and Land's End Trail for the best views.
