Five Baby Steps to Just About Anything

'Tis the season of resolutions. Open a magazine, click on a blog, and you're sure to find advice on making a fresh start, turning over a new leaf, and sticking to your resolutions. Parents of little ones don't really have time to read all those articles, but we've got the very best example right in front of us, don't we?

Babies and kids know how to learn new tricks. Very simply, they're not afraid or falling or failing. They take those small, baby steps. They teeter and trip. They might cry a bit, or laugh -- depends on the day. They have a rest, take a nap, and try again. And again. And again until, presto: they're walking! On to the next thing.

So instead of grand resolutions this year, we're following in our children's path, and taking baby steps toward some long-held goals. It turns out that five baby steps can take you a long way toward

  • raising healthy kids
  • starting a book club
  • planning your year
  • taking pictures
  • figuring out social media
  • introducing kids to politics
  • a healthier grocery list/pantry
  • planning a family reunion
  • and taking a vacation.

So stay with us as we shuffle and teeter toward our aspirations for 2011. Baby steps will take you far!
