Hay or straw bale, pants, shoes, newspapers.
My sister does this every year. It's a great spin on the traditional scarecrow, and it's been a lot of fun to see the pants get longer in the hay bales! She takes a large straw bale and a pair of old pants -- one for each child in the family. The kids then stuff the pants with newspaper. (Sometimes the kids also add shoes or boots to the bottom of the pants.) The kids can then decide where they want have their "kid" jumping into the hay bale. Once a place has been chosen -- coming out of the top, or may be out of one side -- turn the pants upside down on top of the hay, with the waist of the pants actually touching the hay bale. You now have a group of silly hay-bale-jumping kids on your front porch. What a fun and creative addition to your autumn decorations.
