May Day Cones

ages 2-6

Supplies

Colored paper, markers or crayons, scissors, ribbon (optional), glue, cone filling: flowers, candy, cookies

Activity Detail

Did you know that May 1st is called "May Day"? Here is a fun activity to celebrate the day and to do something nice for friends and neighbors. Have your child color a picture or design on a piece of colored paper. Be sure to incorporate "Happy May Day" into the design. Bend the paper into a cone shape and glue the edges in place. Next cut a strip of paper about 1 inch wide by 10 inches long. Glue each end of the strip to the top edge of the cone, creating a handle for the cone. You can also use a piece of ribbon instead of a paper strip. Once the cone and handle are dry, fill the cone with flowers picked from your yard, some candy, or fresh-baked cookies. Take a filled cone and hang it on the front door of friends, neighbors, or Grandma! They will be surprised to receive your May Day goodies.
