Cars Trucks and Things That Go

by Richard Scarry

For ages 2-6 years

This Richard Scarry classic is the perfect compendium of all things real or wildly imaginative that chug and tug and zoom. It is of course chock full of the characters and vignettes that kids adore in Scarry books (yes, you must find Goldbug on every page!), but this one is officially dedicated to the vehicles that really make your little one's motor purr.

My youngest children are just now getting into Richard Scarry books and my oldest son likes to read the books and show them all of the details in the wonderful drawings that accompany the story. Since cars, trucks and all things on wheels are thrilling to the young kids, this book is a perfect fit.

This is another book that both my husband and I grew up with and remember fondly. My children have a well worn copy of their own now. Whether its finding Goldbug or checking out all the crazy kinds of "things that go", there is always something to follow along with or even notice for the first time. And our whole family always has a laugh at the "woodchuck in a hurry". This is another wonderful book by Richard Scarry - and probably my favorite.

Just as awesome as you remember, what with the Pig family and the endless array of autos, not to mention Goldbug. Any kid who's into roadway vehicles is going to want to spend a lot of time with this book. A transportation classic.

My vehicle obsessed son loves to read this book and has way before he could recognize any words. There is so much to look for and pick out of this book from the real vehicles to the imagined. We love to look for Goldbug on every page.

If you have ever read a Richard Scarry book, you know you can read them again and again and still find something new. Long after we first read the book, my son remembers all the characters and we pretend to be Dingo the speeding dog, and Officer Flossy, who chases Dingo throughout the book. Playing Legos, we even re-enact the accident in the book and decide who's going to be Mistress Mouse to fix all the cars. This is certainly a classic and will be a favorite for our 2 year old for a while to come, I imagine!

I think it's pretty clear that Richard Scarry's animations tell a story all their own. In fact, we tell our own stories almost every time we read it. There is SO MUCH going on and we find our son will ask questions about what characters might be feeling or saying. This is one of the more imagination-sparking stories we've had the pleasure to read.
