Miss Spider's Tea Party
by David Kirk
For ages 1+ years
The illustrations in this gorgeous book from the Miss Spider series are particularly engaging, even for your youngest little ones. The pictures get them hooked, and by the time your kids are old enough to really understand the story behind the poem and the lesson it teaches, it's been a family favorite for years. The poem and paintings tell the story of Miss Spider, who goes to great trouble to put together an elaborately enchanting tea party, only to be rebuffed by all her fellow bug invitees. It seems the other bugs were afraid of her and didn't know how kind she really is. When minds are opened and presumed differences melt away, a fantastic party ensues. The poem uses counting to 12 for a little structure, and the much shorter board book edition (called Miss Spider's Tea Party: The Counting Book) is a much more condensed version of the poem that is even more prominently about counting.
