This book is unusual, for sure, but less for being wacky than for being absolutely exquisite. It would be just as welcome on your living room coffee table as a book of literature and art - but you're the parent of a preschooler and you haven't seen your living room in no telling how long! So your child's bookshelf is as good a place as any - or you can carefully excise some pages and frame them as art for your child's wall. The linocut images are simply stunning. And the presentation of the morals up front, with pithy summaries of the original Aesop's fables kept until the end, makes a nice spin on the rules that you are always announcing by fiat for your little one. This set of rules is a fun one to adhere to, to puzzle through, and of course sometimes, to break.
