Diary of a Wombat

by Jackie French

For ages

This silly tale of a wombat determined to get what he wants from an unwitting family will delight the parent of a toddler. You've never realized how much your toddler resembles a wombat until now. It's comforting, somehow, this revelation. And then as your preschooler grows up and begins to refine his sense of humor, he'll be the one chuckling over the tyranny of a demanding wombat. We don't promise that the demands will soften any more than the wombat's do (they don't), but sharing a laugh about the craziness is certain to make everyone feel better.

I think this book is pretty funny, but my three year old doesn't quite get it. She does like the illustrations though and gets a fit of the giggles over the "naughty" things the wombat does. We've checked it of the library enough times not that I think we may need to add it to our own collection.

This book is fantastic! We are so grateful it was given to us as a birthday present. We might never have stumbled on it otherwise. The way they write the book from the wombat's perspective of complete clueless ideas allows the child to feel very knowledgeable. The diary type writing makes it different from other stories. It's really very funny and gets requested often and never gets old.
