Time for Bed

by Mem Fox and Jane Dyer

For ages 2-6 years

You won't find a lovelier bedtime book than this one. Truly, you won't. Jane Dyer's naturalistic watercolors of mother animals snuggling their little ones to sleep are simply gorgeous: she even makes a mother snake look cuddly. In simple rhymes, the mother animals all repeat the mantra: time for bed, time to sleep. If this darling book doesn't get that message across, we can't imagine what will.

I love this book, and my daughter loves making the appropriate sound for each animal. It is the perfect story for just before bed with all the moms and dads settling their little ones in for the night and a gentle cadence when read aloud.

This book is so sweet. Babies and kids like to look at the illustrations of baby animals and their mothers and the story is so soothing and loving of all the different animals putting their babies to bed.

When my daughter was born, we received two copies of this book - one mini sized, perfect for little hands, the other oversized, perfect to read in a group when my other child was born. So sweet, the story walks the reader through the animals as they settle in for sleep. Really, a wonderful part of our library.

This book is one of two that we read at bedtime. I love the repetition, as each animal urges their young to go to sleep. The rhymes are sweet and simple, and it doesn't take long before your child will be able to tell you what each pictured animal is, and possibly make the animal noise, too. A perfect bedtime book!
