I Am A Bunny

by Ole Risom

For ages 2-6 years

I am a bunny. My name is Nicholas. I live in a hollow tree.In the spring, Nicholas likes to sniff the flowers, and in the summer, watch the frogs in the pond. In the fall, he watches the animals getting ready for winter, and in winter, watches the snow falling from the sky. This beautifully illustrated, gentle story is one of Golden’s most beloved titles.

This book (the original from the 60's) was my favorite book when I was a little kid. I loved it so much that I found an original "Sturdy Golden Book" on eBay before my daughter had even arrived. We love the detailed and wonderful pictures for creating conversations about the natural world.

This is one of my favorite books to read just as my little one is drifting off to sleep. It's very relaxing to look at the pictures and talk about the seasons. It's also a quick read- just long enough to send your little one to dreamland.

I am a Bunny is the only story my twins would sit still for when they were babies (thank goodness for this story, because at the time I was freaking out thinking they didn't like reading, wouldn't grow up to be smart, and other paranoid thoughts). It's a sweet, simple tale that illustrates the changing of the seasons. I think my kids still like it because the story leaves us with the reassurance that spring comes again and again . Or maybe they just like all the insect drawings.
